This is CandyKing’s actions to protect our employees and consumers due to the COVID-19 situation
We understand that you are worried. In times like these, it’s hard not to be. Due to the recent development of the COVID-19 outbreak, we would like to give you an update on the measures CandyKing has taken and tell you why there are no health risks by continuing to eat our pick & mix.
Is there any risk of being infected by COVID-19 by picking or eating pick & mix from the stores?
According to the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA), there is no indication that the virus can be spread through food. The government also announces that it is very unlikely that COVD-19 is transmitted through food, as a matter of good hygiene practice anyone handling food should wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. This should be done as a matter of routine, before and after handling food, and especially after being in a public place, blowing their nose, coughing, or sneezing.
What is CandyKing doing to prevent COVID-19 from spreading in the stores?
Strict hygiene and cleaning routines have always been of the utmost importance to us. It is already mandatory for our store consultants to use disposable gloves when refilling the products. They also do multiple thorough hand washes throughout each store visit, following WHO recommendations. Our store consultants regularly clean all racks and bins and are visiting more frequently now – up to 3 times a week. We have always, and continue to use, alcohol based wipes.
Since we want to do our utmost to minimize the risks of spreading, we have expanded our already strict hygiene and cleaning practices to include regular disinfection of our displays in the stores. We also provide the stores with disposable gloves that consumers can use when picking pick & mix with a scoop.
What is CandyKing doing to prevent COVID-19 from spreading among its employees?
CandyKing has taken precautions such as limiting all non-critical business trips and introducing visiting time in all factories for persons not employed by CandyKing. All employees (including store consultants) who feel ill or are aware that they have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should stay home for 14 days before returning to the workplace.
We cannot exclude that the measures we have taken to protect our employees can affect our in-store service. If this should occur, Candyking representative will contact the customer. At the moment, we also do not know of any potential disruptions in the deliveries of our third-party suppliers. We continue to monitor the situation closely and take action if necessary.
CandyKing has taken precautionary measures including travel bans and meeting restrictions and restricted admission to our factories. All employees who do not feel well should stay at home for 14 days before returning to the workplace.
What does the consumer demand look like?
The consumer demand is currently very diverse and varies between different markets. There is a general change in the consumer behaviour such as hoarding of certain products, as well as a shift from sales channels such as kiosks and gas stations to grocery and e-commerce.
The board has decided to withdraw the dividend. You are also talking about a risk of a negative financial impact as of March. How bad is it?
Given the uncertain market situation, the board gives priority to maintaining the company’s strong financial position. The board has also expressed its ambition to call the shareholders to an Extraordinary General Meeting later this year to decide on the dividend, if the market has stabilized and the company’s visibility for profit has been normalized.
Easter is an important holiday for CandyKing. How do you assess that Easter sales will be affected by COVID-19?
It is currently not possible to assess the potential impact this may have on the upcoming Easter sales. We believe that the demand for our products will temporarily decline. We also expect a negative impact from the temporary closure of sales channels such as entertainment and travel retail. This is partly mitigated by a continued customer demand for packaged products in the food and e-commerce industries.
We will continue to follow the rules and advice given by WHO and the local health and food authorities. We will also continue to monitor the development of the situation worldwide very closely and take further action if necessary.
Stay safe and take care of each other!
